News Washbag closes again comes on day Ed Moose dies

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article...

I'd say the coincidence is fate. Let the Washington Square Bar and Grill rest in peace. It needed another generation. It needed Herb Caen. Did anyone really go there after it re-opened?

For me the memory is enough ... one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved to SF. I felt like such an insider. This was real SF to me. RIP Ed Moose and Washbag. Thanks for the memories.

I'd say real SF was when Rose Pistola's bar was in that space. The Washbag was a product of the Fern Bar era.and was more Union Street than North Beach.

When was Rose Pistola in that location?

Yep, I spent my share of time there a long time ago. It definitely was a slice of San Francisco. Really never went after it changed owners.

The ownership company filed for bankruptcy (Ch. 7 liquidation) on Tuesday.
