Eats on Folly Island

We will be staying at the oceanfront Holiday Inn on Folly Island. I have looked at the hotel's restaurant menu and it is pretty appealing. However, we would like to have other options on days we choose not to go into Charleston. Any advice?

We go to Folly every year and love to hang out at Taco Boy when we're not in the mood for seafood. It's fun. Our friends tried the restaurant at the pier and loved it. Anyone else have an opinion on it?

We go to the one downtown and absolutely love it. The Baja Taco and Salsa trio are big favorites. It's quite the hot spot and has a fun bar scene.

I agree with the Taco Boy recommendation as well as Lost Dog Cafe. About a year ago I ate at a seafood restaurant on the right just before the last bridge onto the island. The place had a great screened in deck over the marsh and good local shrimp. I recommend it, but maybe someone else can help me out with the name!

Anchor Line Restaurant @ 2293 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 843 - 795 - 7518.

It closed in 2007 but someone reopened it recently. The location is outstanding and the food is excellent.

River Cafe is open Monday/Friday serving excellent French cuisine with lowcountry accents. Sanbar Seafood and Steaks serves outstanding fresh seafood and steaks Thursday/Friday/Saturday only. Snapper Jack's is a nice seafood joint on Center Street with open air bar and pool tables. Lil Mama's has good breakfast, lunch and dinner. Surf Bar is fun and the burgers are the best as they are cooked over wood fire. One day a week is fresh BBQ.

I think the place that took over the Anchor Line space is called The Sand Dollar, is that right? You've eaten there? I attempted to once, but it was closed. Could you please tell me more about it? Price, atmosphere, food, etc. Thanks!

It's called Sand Castle Restaurant. It has been renovated but I hear it's for sale. A friend of mine said the food was outstanding and the portions were huge.

Here's the old Anchor Line before it was remodeled. The prices at the Sand Castle are very inexpensive and the portions are huge. The fried seafood is outstanding but I heard it's for sale. May not be open now. Call.

Bowen's Island Restaurant a few miles N of Folly Beach has been serving outstanding low country cuisine with fresh local seafood for 60 years. Don't miss it.

Rita's Grill has outstanding burgers and nice outdoor dining. I second Lost Dog Cafe open for breakfast and lunch. Folly Beach Crab Shack has outstanding fresh seafood for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Taco Boy is a fun Mexican restaurant open for lunch and dinner serving outstanding Mexican food and cold delicious drinks. Locklear's Beach City Grill has average sefood which suits me fine because the view right on the city pier is outstanding.

Taco Boy would work for lunch, dinner or a snack. Lost Dog Cafe is known for their breakfasts, and Tokyo Crepes is known for their, well, crepes.
