Is Oceanaire really worth THAT price??

  • 4

My daughter and I will be in Atlanta for a conference in Oct and she really wants to go to Oceanaire. I saw the prices and I don't mind paying if it is a great meal but is oceanaire really good? We both love seafood. Being from landlocked Arizona, we could both eat seafood everyday. Are there any other places that we should go while we are there? We are going to be staying at the Georgia Tech conference Center and will have no car. I'm thinking we will try Ecco (sp?).But any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. I really do love Oceanaire. Everything I have ever had there is excellent. The service is great. The crabcakes are insane, more crab than cake. I think it is worth it!
    Have fun!

    1. Last Sunday evening, August 8th, I dined at Oceanaire for the second time. As the first experience, the food was delicious, but more importantly the service was outstanding. The service was excellent; all questions were answered, everything was explained and the service was well beyond superior. Many restaurants have delicious food, but lack in service, or if the service is excellent, the food is not.
      Oceanaire excelled in all areas!
The purpose of my visit was to see friends that live in the Atlanta area. I visit Atlanta several times per year and can assure you that my next visit will include another dining experience at the Oceanaire.

      1. Oceanaire is lovely, service very good; whether its 'worth' the price is a call you will have to make for yourself. Ecco is a wonderful choice, too. At Ecco last week we had dinner for four, with two bottles of a nice sav. blanc, for around $50 per person. They do small dishes very well; I had a braised pork/pasta entree that was excellent. Don't miss the honey-coated fried goat cheese appetizer; the squid app. is good, too. Two other suggestions nearby to explore: French American bistro [FAB], good salad nicoise and skate wing; and Social, a nice bistro with a french/north african flair. Both, like Ecco, will likely put you back significantly less than Oceanaire, though its worth an occasional visit from us, with visitors from out of town or a special occasion.

        1. Oceanaire is definitely NOT worth that price, it is an average seafood restaurant at best. I would place it in the same category as Legal Sea Foods-not amazing, but not that bad. The service was horrible, we went on Mother's Day and our waiter was greasy, bloated, had food stains all over his uniform, and forgot our orders. The waiters and staff were as plebeian and apathetic as the food was unimpressive. Please believe the bad reviews you read about this place.

I suggest Kyma, Silk, Nan, or Atlanta Fish Market.
