Just had the dish of the summer at AMA Restaurant in Atlantic Highlands- ANGRY SOFT SHELL CRAB!- A fantastic dish of soft shell in the chef's secret "angry" sauce. All with different local Jersey tomatos...A true taste delight in every bite. You just have to try this dish!!

OK, what did YOU love this summer....and from which restaurant, and why....

The grilled cheese short rib sandwich at Coda in Maplewood could be the best thing ever put on a plate. It used to be Indigo Smoke...changed about a month ago. Gooey muenster-type cheese, melt in your mouth short ribs on texas toast with some of the best potato wedge fries ever...this is something you simply must try.

Is Coda actually in Montclair? I couldn't find a website for it.

Maplewood...right in the middle of the village. Good bar, good food.

My confusion arose because I had eaten at Indigo Smoke in Montclair, which I didn't think was very spectacular. It wasn't bad, but Mr. diva and I, having lived in Austin, TX, expect a lot from BBQ--good smoke flavor and down home sides. We'll have to try this Maplewood joint out--is Coda on Springfield Ave.?

It's downtown..where Lorena's is. The BBQ is so-so, but it's getting away from that label as far as I can tell...lots of other selections, all pretty good.

The grilled octopus appetizer at Copeland in Morristown. It was served over a white bean puree and was sublime.

And another vote for soft shell crabs .... at Restaurant Nicholas: Crispy Soft Shell Crab, Jicama Salad, Citrus Basil Vinaigrette. Best deep-fry batter ever. Went back just last week to have them again!

Yup. That's where I ate Friday night; had a selection of small plates with a couple of friends.

I second Dinallo's, the Veal Milanese is my favorite also; but then I love everything I've ever eaten at Dinallo's .Their Seafood Salad is also excellent. and their service is top shelf.

Tough call, but I might have to go with the short ribs at No. 9 in Lambertville back in June. -mJ

a wealth of burgers and a king's bounty of grilled cheese variations at bond st bar, post-work, getting through the hectic jersey shore summer with burgers and beer. all have been excellent. nice

Cured salmon with bitter chocolate(think the inside of a carvel cake), and compressed mango at UpRoot in Warren. Close second, the lobster club bruschetta at Bin 14 in Hoboken.

For me it's a toss up between the grilled octopus appetizer at Oceanos in Fair Lawn (nobody does it better) or the calamari affogati at Bon Giovanni in Ramsey. The salty hint of the kalamata olives rounded out the flavor and the calamari was so tender it melted in your mouth.

The basil ice cream at Restaurant Blu and Next Door (same chef/owner) in Montclair. I swoon every time I have it!

The mussles appetizer at AMA is the best dish ive had this summer, spring, and winter. Waiting to see if something new takes its place for Fall...

The arugula apple and fennel salad at Origin Thai in Somerville. This may be one of the best salads I've ever had.
