One healthy (AND DELICIOUS) option near Vineland

  • 5

we're bring visitors from New Orleans to Niagara - our favorite Labour Day Weekend vacation. Already eating at Vineland Estates and Treadwell - so looking for one other lighter, healthier (and ideally less expensive but not the most important factor) recommendation for one more evening meal near Vineland. Hope you can help me impress these wine lovers from the south!

  1. I would recommend About Thyme Bistro, August (food very good but service so-so) or check out what is going on at The Good Earth Cooking School. They have a little restaurant now and the winery is open. They may have a set menu dinner that weekend. I think About Thyme and August would both fit what you are looking for.

      1. I second About Thyme Bistro. Great 3 course for $30pp, reasonable prices for wines and a graduated corkage fee that is quite cheap if you take local or Ontario wines. It's a small place, so best to make a reservation.

thanks to both of you - taking the advice on About Thyme - will probably go for something lighter/cheaper on menu as going to Treadwell next day and Vineland Estates after that - any ideas on a good place for a lighter healthier lunch in Niagara on the Lake in between a.m. show and p.m. matinee?

There are a few options. The Epicurean is close by. The Old Winery Restaurant is about a 5-10 minute drive. Southbrook Winery has a cafe/stone pizza oven set up outdoors (also about a 10 min drive). One of my favourite options though (weather permitting), is to have a picnic along the parkway. You can get some food from The Epicurean, Harvest Barn or Kurtz Orchards and eat along the river (there are plenty of picnic areas). Might be a nice break from being indoors at the theatre all day.

great idea re picnic - will do a weather check nearer the time - we're staying in Vineland and driving in to NOTL for the day so could pick up food on way in before a.m. show and just bring a cooler - thanks!
