Desserts Plus (Italian Restaurant) - Vaughan
After reading reviews on the internet (not Chowhound), we were a bit apprehensive, but figured we’d give this place a try.
The reviews were of horrendous service, but they had good home cooked Italian food.
We did indeed notice the service was quite rough, not rude, but I wouldn’t say overly welcoming, not for newcomers anyhow. I observed a great deal during our lunch and found the staff do treat the regulars a whole lot better. The place is small (and frequented about 99% by regulars).
We had the fettuccini with meat sauce (pretty much like a bolognese), very good, tasty, fresh pasta and as the reviews mentioned, portions are indeed generous for the price (9.99). We also ordered the chicken scaloppini with potatoes and veggies (which I regret). The chicken was very bland and a bit rubbery (13.99).
I would go again, if in the area and stick to the pasta dishes (which was a bit of a trek for us), but wouldn’t go out of my way.
I would say it’s a good Italian restaurant with a down home feeling, and very popular with the locals.
I’d be interested in the Zuppa de Pesce, which we saw the table beside us enjoy.
