Need some ideas for Sat nite
My mother-in-law is coming into town (and it's her bday weekend) and we're taking her out for dinner on Sat. nite. I'm looking for really good food and something new - anywhere from Santa Monica to Downtown. Heard great things about WP24 (probably can't get in), Animal, Bottega Louie, First and Hope, Mozza (been there and not new), Street, Rivera. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What are you looking for? You say good food and new, but your definition of new may be a little different than others, for example, Mozza opened almost four years ago, while WP24 has only been open a few months.
Agree with Westsidegal that Bottega Louie can be bad.
Rivera just changed their menu and now has some new regional specialties.
First and Hope I thought was good but I have only been there once, nice supper club elegant but trendy atmosphere.
WP24 wasn't so crowded when I was there. It's a unique room that's a little vegas, and upscale Wolfgang Puck Chinese...hmmm. People love it though.
Animal is a tough one on a Saturday.
You could probably get in at Drago Centro for upscale Italian.
I was also just at Bastide for a great meal with terrific atmosphere and an unbeatable wine list.-----
