Bronx Flavor

Lets give the BX some love!!! Any of you who live in the Bronx and have BronxNet need to check out Baron Ambrosia. You can also watch episodes on his website:

NY Times did an article on him

He is endlessly entertaining....I can;t even begin to describe him, he just needs to be seen. Perhaps we can discuss the restaurants he reviews in this thread and let the Bronx shine!!! I haven't been to them all but he put me on to Ali's Roti Shop and Xochimilco which I both love...

  1. He is the best. his shows are fun, yes. BUT the places he goes to are really good and very much under the radar. He is my go-to guy for bronx food.

Ok lets see if we can get this of my favorite episodes:

      Joe Bataan Stole my girlfriend:

This episode actually veers from the food coverage a bit to cover Joe Bataan AKA Subway Joe AKA The King of Latin Soul. He's a big deal in NYC Latino music...
If you want to skip the Joe Bataan stuff go to 15:00 in.

In this episode he goes to Xochimilco in Mott Haven
      653 Melrose Avenue

Baran gives a great history of Southern Mexican food and explains the history behind all the dishes. Even if you don't plan on going to Xochi..Baran does a great job paying homage to the cuisine and explaining its preparation.

Although the restaurant specializes in organs meats, and other exotic body parts that I'm still too wimpy to eat. Luckily they have wonderful options for meat wussies...the tacos are huge and super yummy, the chorizo and pineapple infused pork are my favorites..

The sopes with carnitas are wonderful, I tried the veggie ones and the cheese was a bit overwhelming.

The squash blossom and huitlacoche quesadillas were great. It was my first huitlacoche (corn fungus) experience and it blew my mind. It was very mushroom-like.

The Horchata and Agua de Jamaica blew me away

I have yet to try the cemitas or the mole but those will be next.

This is a great pre-Yankee game spot, especially if your driving because it is a bit of a walk, and is closest to the 2 and 5 (neither of which stop at the stadium).

Heres a link to Yelp with more reviews....

    2. Bronx Flavor is without doubt the best thing on television
(and I have seen Ghoul A Go Go!), and The Baron is my hero.

      Did I just say hero?
Hmmm, sounds like a topic for a future episode of Bronx Flavor... ;)
