Retro Burger Yonge and St Clair - worse than Hero Burger

MorseCat Aug 12, 2010 10:02 AM

Retro Burger opened this past Monday and today the work team decided to give it a try. That will be the one and only visit for the 5 of us. Frozen fries, tasteless burgers and nothing special to report.
I'm old enough to remember good burger joints so I don't know what they mean by Retro.
We all tried burgers and fries except 1 brave soul who had the poutine; the poutine had real bacon and real curd, but the frozen fries just didn't do it.

Burger toppings are standard: ketchup, mustard, mayo, tomato, onion, bbq onion, hot peppers, lettuce, pickles, lettuce.

It's in a space where no restaurant has been successful in the past 5 years, so we'll see how long it lasts.

You may want to consider deleting the autolinks that chowhound has added to your post as they are both irrelevant.

Where at Yonge and St. Clair?

      1450 Yong Street
South of St Clair on Yonge (where the Asian restaurants were and most recently Spinners)

Totally agree with Morse Cat - worst burger I have EVER had!
Could taste the freezer burn on the fries and the grease in the fried patty congealed with the filler - no beef in this joint!
Plus the gooey white bread that attaches to the roof of your mouth like glue added unnecessary calories to my day.
For this neigbourhood - I predict this place will be closed by December

with a name like Retro Burger, I'm not surprised it's brutal.

            +1 on awful.

It's not the space that's doomed, it's just the crappy food. So much potential here.

              Amy Pataki likes it.

From her Top 10 Trends of 2010 list:

"While hamburgers still sizzled in 2010, at least this year they’re affordable. Unlike the truffle-and-foie gras creations of recent times, the new crop at The Burger’s Priest and Retro Burger are refreshingly simple."

I remember her being fond of their deep fried Mars bar, but in a review I swore I remember reading, she was not a fan of the burger...

Regardless, try it for yourself, I promise you won't find it "refreshing".
