for a group of 8. Looking for a fun place, lively atmosphere where the food is good too.
Either of these fit the bill or anything else come to mind?

I could have sworn you post very similar questions over and over.... Why are you so often planning last minute large group dinners?

BTW, there is availability at 5pm, 5:15pm, and 11:30 pm at Momofuku Ssam Bar for the Bo Ssam meal.
You could also try Back Forty, they have special meals for big groups and do not otherwise take reservations.
Oh, and Txikito has a brand new private dining room and has started taking reservations for groups of 6 or more.

You can also check out Mercadito or Mercadito Cantina in the east village....Both have great drinks and great food. Cantina is more of a party place with lots of open seating in the front of the room. Regular Mercadito is fun up front by the street, but the main room is in the back area, and is usually quieter.
