where to get fresh wild blueberries?

Does anyone know where I can get fresh wild blueberries? Near Upper West Side or Union Square would be great. I'm not sure what the season is, but surely they wouldn't be too far from "normal" blueberry season?

Thanks!

  1. Berried Treasures (Union Square Greenmarket Wednesdays and Fridays, 77th Street and Columbus Avenue Greenmarket on Sundays) had them a few weeks ago but I don't recall seeing them this past Wednesday.

Damascott (or similar name) had them today at Union Square--$5 per box.

        Samascott?

YES!! Samascott! They also have good peaches--both yellow and white. I think I paid $2.50 per pound there today for both varieties.

Two vendors, at least, had these today at Union Square. The season is almost over and the quality has declined quite a bit. Price is either $4.50 each, or, at Fantasy Fruits, two for $7.

Can I clarify that this is the wild blueberries? The small ones that are also called Maine blueberries? The ones I saw at Union Square today look to me like the large "normal" blueberries. Maybe I'm looking out for the wrong thing.

The veg/fruit place in Chelsea Market has what you're looking for.

You are right- all the blueberries at the Union Square Greenmarket are the cultivated variety- no wild blueberries any longer. I've probably asked evey vendor for the last several weeks.

Thanks Chuck Lawrence - I'll go there early next week.
Thanks for the clarification Ann. I did three passes through the Saturday crowds and thought maybe they hid them round the back.

      2. check out the market at Lincoln Center...on that triangle of land
just south of the Barnes & Noble.

I have a feeling that the local blueberry season is over with.

        1. Thanks kathryn, pbjluver. I'll check them out, maybe next season.

          1. The fruit/veg store in Chelsea Market has had them all week, including last night.

            1. We were at the Abingdon farmers market this morning (open every Sat) and they had plenty.
