Farmer's Cheese in Seattle?

My sister and I are trying to re-create our grandmother's burek recipe from the former Yugoslav. Does anyone know where we could buy a simple farmer's cheese in the Seattle area? Preferably somewhere between the Central District and Greenwood. And we need to make ALOT of it, so somewhere we could buy in bulk would be awesome. Thanks for the help!

  1. I have seen farmer's cheese at DeLaurenti in Pike Place Market, but haven't tried it.

I've never tried burek either, however I can tell you that I went on a similar odyssey when I was trying to find something similar to Lipto, a Hungarian farmer's cheese used to make a savory spread I grew up on. The closest thing I found, and which worked very well, was Bulgarian sheep's milk feta. I found this at Big John's PFI at the south end of the International District. It is much softer & less crumbly than Greek or other feta cheese.

PFI - If they can't help you, nobody can...

    2. I've seen Farmer's Cheese at Whole Foods, Ballard Market and I think PCC-Greenlake, but not in bulk quantities.

      1. Is the white cheese that is commonly served with platters of Ethiopian food farmer's cheese?
