Txakolina Wines in DC??

meezba Aug 11, 2010 06:25 AM

Article in the Times today piqued my interest in this wine: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/11/din...

Sounds like a perfect summer drink.

I am new to the area. Has anyone seen this wine served at a restaurant (Estadio perhaps?) or sold in stores (Calvert-Woodley)?

If not, are there suggestions for friendly wine stores in the Dupont / U-Street area who will special-order wines?

I found it @C-W at about $23. last fall.

I had one at The Liberty Tavern (Arlington, VA) about a month and a half ago. I was a bit wary, as I had never even heard of it before, but it was indeed the perfect summer wine. It's still listed on their wine list online - Ganeta Getaiako Txakolina, Gipuzkoa, Spain 2008 ($36).

Addy Bassin's on MacArthur has had them, and very good too.

Funny you mention this -- I just got an email from Cork Market that there is a special tasting 3-6 tomorrow August 14 on Txakolina.
