outdoors, cheap?

any suggestions? No upper eastside please. Prefer something ethnic.

    Today's NY Times has an article "Beer Gardens Bloom Around the City". These places all serve at least some food.

      How cheap is cheap to you? Lantern Thai, on the corner of 2nd Av. & 18th St., has sidewalk seating. The food's very good, and the lunch special is $8.

        Lantern Thai is mediocre at best. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for it.

        Get take out and go "al fresco" in a nearby park. Share a Katz's Pastrami on rye and eat across the street in the park.
        Define cheap? There are a plentitude of sidewalk cafes in Manhattan. I can think of several inexpensive Thai places on 9th Ave in Hells Kitchen.
