Places to eat around Marriott Canyon Villas at Dessert Ridge and near close by National parks

We will be going to Phoenix and staying at the Marriott Canyon Villas and we intend to hit some national parks for day trips making Marriott our base.
Would love some places to eat on the way to parks and around Phoenix.
So far in Phoenix, these places sounds delicious, Matt's Big Breakfast. Pizzeria Bianco, Petit Fromage, Phoenix Ranch market, Cowboy Ciao. Are they close to Marriott where we are staying?
Any other suggestions?
Also we intend to go to Petrified Forest National Park and maybe Grand Canyon? Any good eats along the way. We have a pass so we want to stick to places that are within 1 day driving back and forth too. Would also appreciate where to sight see.
Much obliged.

  1. Petit Fromage (inside D'licious Dishes) is the closest to that Marriott, but, still over 16 miles away, according to Google Maps. Cowboy Ciao and Ranch Market are about 19 miles, in different directions. The others are further still. Except for the distance, they are good choices, IMO. I think you should make sure Petit Fromage is what you expect. Petite Maison or Au Petit Four seem more fitting.

Honestly, the Desert Ridge area does not interest me, so, I don't get out that way. I would be interested in trying a gourmet burger at 25 Degrees. I am also interested in eating at Roy's, but, that's a chain you might have near your home.

FWIW, if my plan was to check out some AZ National Parks in the Summer, I would favor staying in Flagstaff, Sedona, or possibly some other place over Phoenix, due to the heat. Getting a bargain at the Marriott might not be a bad thing, though.

    1. As John points out, none of these places are close to Desert Ridge. (I'd love to go to a place called "Dessert Ridge," by the way -- maybe with Creme Brulee Plateau nearby;) Desert Ridge is on the northern periphery of Phoenix. The area immediately surrounding it leans toward chains, but there are some worthwhile options:

Humble Pie -- individual pizzas with interesting toppings, burrata, salads, good drink selection, etc. On the west side of Tatum across from the Desert Ridge shopping center.

The Cafe at MIM -- This is the on-site restaurant at the recently-opened Musical Instrument Museum, which is across the freeway from Desert Ridge. I haven't eaten there yet, but MIM is worth a visit despite my complaint about the location in the comments attached to this review:

Tea Light Cafe -- a mile or two east of Desert Ridge in the "Scottsdale" 101 shopping center (actually in northeast Phoenix). Very nice little Vietnamese place with pho and bahn mi.

Carolina's North -- About five miles south of Desert Ridge at Cave Creek & Cactus. No frills atmosphere, but excellent Mexican food.

      Tea Light Cafe
      7000 E Mayo Blvd # 1084, Phoenix, AZ

      Humble Pie
      21050 N Tatum Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85050

Thank you both, I will be sure to check some of these places out.

      2. I agree with the recommendaton for humble pie. Also be sure to check out pita jungle (especially their excellent mediterranean salad), yardhouse (great draft beers), 25 degrees and if you're not from the west coast, in and out burgers (don't be fooled by the fastfood ambiance!)

A few miles away, check out North (in Kierland) and ZPizza (on tatum).

Yeah, check out Kierland Commons (a nearby outdoor mall that is smaller and more upscale than Desert Ridge). There are a few good restaurants in there like North and The Green House. I was not very impressed with Zinc Bistro, but they do classic French bistro and its very popular with the "beautiful people". On the other side of Scottsdale Road is Oakville Grocery in the Scottsdale Quarter mall.
Also over at the Westin right next to Kierland Commons is Deseo. They might still have a good happy hour at their bar. Their muddled cocktails (mojitos, etc) are very good using quality fresh fruits and high end liquor. Their ceviche is fantastic in my book. (Deseo is closed until Aug 31)
