Beef shank near Plateau
Hey I'm looking to make stews and soups and I would like to know where I can find inch thick slices of beef shank in supermarkets or asian markets. I'll accept specialty butcher recommendations if it isn't going to be overpriced
I have seen beef shank in pretty much all the big supermarkets, but not everywhere and not all the time. I think your best shot for supermarkets would be Metro. In my experience they always have the best selection of meats. My two local Metros often have beef shank and other harder to find goodies like heart, liver, kidney, chicken gizzards and the like.

Most of the major chains will have it, but if you need at least an inch thick, you'll likely have to look elsewhere or talk to the counterstaff and pre-order.
Last time I bought shank slices was from the butcher in the Fruiterie 440 on Taschereau; I'll buy just the meat at Asian grocers as they'll have the complete muscle with those tendon end bits.

I used to buy beef shanks from Alim Pot on Roy just off St. Laurent all the time when I still lived in that neighborhood, about $3-4 each.
