Just looking for something tasty and comfortable in or around West Dundee. Could be just for me and my wife, or for the kids too. Thanks!

  1. Algonquin is north of West Dundee, and the home of Port Edward. It's a seafood restaurant that's been there for a long time. Last time I was there it was fairly good - maybe not the best in Chicagoland, but not bad. The kids will get a kick out of seeing the table in the boat in the pond inside the restaurant. www.portedwardsrestaurant.com

For the adults, Coopers Hawk Winery has a location in South Barrington. They have excellent wines and a tasting room at the entrance to the restaurant, so you can try all their wines there before eating. The markups on the wine when eating at the restaurant are far better than at most restaurants, and the food is very good too. www.chwinery.com

I've also heard good things about Barrington Country Bistro in Barrington, but haven't been there. www.barringtoncountrybistro.com

For deep-dish pizza, Lou Malnati's is a little drive; West Dundee is about halfway between the locations in Lakewood and in Schaumburg. When checking the locations on their website at www.loumalnatis.com note that some are full service, while others are carry-out only. For stuffed pizza, Giordano's has a location in South Elgin. www.giordanos.com At either place, phone ahead with your pizza order to avoid waiting 30+ minutes while seated for your pizza to bake.

    1. In Dundee there is a Francescas on Rt72. Good, like the rest of them. Across the street from that is a brew pub thats pretty good as well. On Rt 31 south of Higgins a little farther west is Reginas--our current go to place for Italian. For Mexican there is a little place on Rt 72 a hair east of town on the north side that is terrific, El Faro.

      1. Francesca is an excellent choice. There's one in W Dundee (my preference) and another in Geneva (a bit more family oriented). http://www.miafrancesca.com/restauran...
Another option in Bien Trucha in Geneva - a popular upscale taqueria with creative drinks and appetizers and a small but well executed dinner menu. Not child friendly and long waits. http://www.bientrucha.com/index.php
