Reasonable but good in Woodstock?

davmar77 Aug 10, 2010 10:37 AM

we'll be in woodstock friday night for a show at the colony cafe on rock city rd. we are hoping to get to the area early enough to grab a bite. i'd like to park and stay in town so nothing too far. walking distance is best. i don't think the club has much to offer so we are looking around. simple is good and nothing too expensive this time around. i'm hoping to get there between 6-6:30 pm so hopefully we won't have any waiting times. showtime is 8pm.
any thoughts?
thanks

You're in luck. A new place, can't remember the name, just opened right near Rock City Road. They serve Asian fare with lots of noodle dishes. Nothing is over $10. I was there a couple of weeks ago and the food was pretty good. Ask anyone in the stores and they'll point you to the place. Other than that, the places tend to be overpriced and mediocre in Woodstock.

we did go there and it was quite good. we had the cold sesame noodles, seared calamari, miso grilled salmon and green papaya salad. it was all really well done and about as reasonable as i could want, especially considering the area. if we are over that way again, we would surely go back. our friends had marinated string beans, the miso salmon and one of the noodle bowls which, for 10.00, is great. in this case, it was loaded with tofu, mushrooms, scallions, veggie broth and more. we were in the area for a concert of a band who are friends of ours from california and they ended up there too. everyone left happy.

we were in the area again this past weekend so we went again. very good, reasonable and fast. we both had noodle bowls. the run a couple of specials too but we opted to go simple and it was fine.

the food was ok, but i found everything slightly lacking. not bad, just lacking.

I had the pork buns and they were remarkably bad. Sauce was cloying, meat was deficient. The bun, itself, was ok, but did not taste as though made in their kitchen.
That said, I'm always desperate for noodles, so will head in to at least give them a try.

I wouldn't consider bear cafe reasonable. And relative to what you get, i wouldn't consider little bear reasonable, either.

glad to hear about the noodle joint. it's on my list, as is the new breakfast / lunch joint heading towards bearsville.

the bear is reasonable, perhaps not in the absolute sense, but reasonable given the quality and type of food.

i find little bear quite reasonable (and i love the pork/shrimp/rice cake soup!!)

We ate here last night and loved it. We each had a noodle bowl with different broths and meat selections. We also had barbecue pork steamed buns which were great. Neither of us loved the marinated string beans . Great addition to the area.
