Cafe Apamate closed?

FrancisdeR Aug 10, 2010 10:36 AM

Just drove by it today, and there appeared to be a for lease sign in the window.

Unless that sign pertained to the higher floors (unlikely, I suspect they are apartments) we just lost a really good little place, walking distance from the Suzanne Roberts theatre (and even the Wilma). I can't say they were inexpensive, but everything was very good indeed, including the service.

It's been closed for a couple months now. The chef said she has plans for the future, but I haven't heard anything beyond that.

Oh no! I loved Apamate! What a disappointment. They never seemed to have enough business, so I'm not surprised. I loved their format, so I'll try whatever she does next. Thanks for the info.

I really liked this place, too, especially for bunch. But when it came down to it, I barely ever made it in. The location always felt a bit funny for some reason.

We used to go pre-theatre when we were going to the Suzanne Roberts. It was around the corner, you could park on the street, and it was not too much food (always a good thing before a show). It was, however, very good, even if it averaged out to about $3 per bite. Cash only was at most a minor inconvenience.

People say nice things about Novita across the street.

Novita Bistro is really nice. Their fried calamari in balsamic appetizer is truly divine and my favorite version of calamari anywhere, period. Also like the house-made sausages and tagines. It's very affordable and I always lament that they too seem to have a hard time filling tables due to the location.

I liked Apamate the few times I went, but it did seem pricey for what I got and price was a large factor in why I didn't go more frequently, even when I lived very nearby.

              Thanks, sockii.

We still subscribe to the PTC, so Novita will definitely be on our list. We should be getting our tickets soon.

I am so disappointed, I was only there a handful of times but really liked it. I really liked the whole vibe of a genuine laid back tapas place, more akin to what you'd find in Spain as opposed to the larger more themed type places - like Amada and Bar Ferdinand. While I love any and all spansih restaurants, I do think there is a need for a more casual cafe type spot. Cafe Barcelona fit that bill too and unfortunately they closed as well.

Anyone hear anything about the Apamate crew doing their next thing, whatever it is/will be?
