I am looking at booking the Donalda Club (the Donalda Room) for a family reunion dinner banquet next summer. However, I haven't been able to find any reviews on this place on Chowhound or on the internet.
Does anyone have any feedback on the quality of their food / service?
I worked there maybe 7 years ago and the food was good then. I know the majority of the chefs and cooks have changed since then. I have heard from a few people I know who went there for weddings or christmas parties have said the food was great.
The view and the ambiance is fantastic, no denying that!
We are members of Donalda. The club is lovely, especially the grounds. The people are really nice, understated and friendly. The staff are really delightful and the service is great.
The "ballroom" is sorely in need of updating. The food is passable, but not Chowish. I also find it pricey for the quality. I would never make a wedding there because I think the food would be mediocre. When we made Bar Mitzvah parties for our boys we opted to go to hotels (Metropolitan and Royal York) rather than Donalda because of concern for the quality of the food and the room decor.
I was at a wedding several years ago at the Granite Club. I have to say that the food was great, and the ballroom really nice. The grounds don't hold a candle to Donalda and the vibe there is not nearly as friendly.
The fact that it is a private club might have something to do with the lack of reviews. We had our rehearsal dinner there three years ago and the food and service were great. They do private functions very well. It's a beautiful venue and you really can't beat the view out over the golf course. The patio below is absolutely amazing with an out door fire pit and a chef size grill that makes me very envious.
