Outstanding place to eat for an anniversary dinner
Looking for recs for an anniversary dinner in early Sept. in Manhattan... we've eaten at lots of the "greats" in Brooklyn already quite a few times and some of our faves include Grocery, Saul, Vinegar Hill House, Lunetta, Good Fork.
A few things to keep in mind:
- We are willing to splurge on this dinner, since we're expecting our first child in January and don't anticipate going to fancy dinners for quite a while after this!
- I can't currently eat sushi or any other raw fish/meat, so no sushi places but otherwise seafood is ok
- I am not a big fan of eating beef or pork (although my husband likes steaks/burgers), so a steakhouse also would not be my first choice.
- I'm not drinking alcohol so a great wine or cocktail list is not too important
Any ideas?!

I would highly recommend Eleven Madison Park for your celebration, although you need to make your reservation immediately, since you're just about a month away...
EMP is a beautiful room, the food is very good, the service a delight. My favorite festive meal location in the city. They will also accomocate any dietary request you have. And they have wonderful non-alcoholic cocktails too.
Congrats on your anniversary and your expected child! Enjoy.

EMP is our favorite NYC restaurant. You are in for a real treat! As was noted, they do serve delicious non-alcoholic cocktails. Because I don't drink, I have tried just about all of them. My current favorite is the "Orange Julius."
You can see the "Orange Julius" in this EMP photo set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11863391@N03/sets/72157624377326328/with/4742162225/
When you call to reserve, be sure to mention that you are celebrating a special occasion as the staff loves to know about such things.
Happy Anniversary and Best Wishes on the January arrival of your baby!

re: Pigurd
EMP is definitely not closed right now. They will be closed the last week of August into the first week of September. Not sure exactly when they will reopen.
