Best Chicken-Fried Steak In Seattle Area?

OK, I'm in a low-brow mood, and I'm wondering what people consider the best chicken-fried steak joint in the area. Dish? Jules Maes? The Five Point? Beth's? Just to frame the discussion, let's omit the spuds/toast/extras, and limit ourselves to the steak, breading, seasoning, gravy and preparation.

Who wins, and why?

  1. I'm heading to Seattle this Fall, so I'll be very interested in the results to this question.

    1. 99% of Seattle restaurants that serve chicken fried steak use prepackaged, frozen steaks from Sysco or Food Services of America. Then they deep fry it to to ensure it's terrible. The vast majority of Puget Sounders have never had a real chicken fried steak and don't know the difference. (Ignorence is culinary bliss.) The ONLY decent chicken fry I've had is at the Steelhead Diner on their breakfast menu. However, they recently have taken it off the menu but I'm told you might be able to still order it with advance notice. Otherwise, get on a plane to Dallas.

Leper is spot on. One of the highlights of me going down to Texas on business is finding good CFS. I will say, however, that a whole lot of Texas restaurants use Pioneer brand country gravy mix and it is pretty good.

      2. Hudson is pretty good for CFS

        1. I like the CFS at Peso's. The breading is not too flour-y and the habaƱero gravy is really good.

I liked the CFS at Geraldine's Counter too but it's been to long for me to remember why I liked it.

Hmm, habenero gravy sounds like something I need to try!

Ever since Mr. Bill's restaurants closed down, I have yet to find a really great CFS. Theirs was the best.

I second Geraldine's Counter. Not an expert on CFS but I liked it.

            2. I've been pretty happy with the chicken-fried steak I've had at Silver Fork, in Rainier Valley. Extra bonus at Silver Fork are the best grits I've had on the west coast.
