saturday lunch in chelsea

I'm planning a Saturday afternoon outing in Chelsea with 6 or 8 friends in September. The plan is to visit galleries and then have a late lunch. I'm looking for a place that has a bar, and serves at least some regional/seasonal cuisine. My first choice would be Blue Hill, but as far as I can tell they don't serve lunch on Saturdays. Chelsea or adjacent neighborhoods are fine.

Any suggestions are welcomed....

Thanks.

  1. Tocqueville, on 15th St., b/t Union Sq. W. & 5th Av. (closer to 5th) serves lunch on Saturdays. The latest reservation is 2 p.m. Chef/Owner Marco Moreiro shops at the Union Square Greenmarket a block from the restaurant. His delicious cuisine is definitely regional and seasonal.

    1. If you want reservation for 8 on a Saturday for lunch in September, you might want to make that reservation now.

Do you mean for Tocqueville? Making a reservation is certainly a good idea. However, I've never seen it even near full for lunch even on Saturday.

Nope, just meant in general, for a Saturday, for a party of 8.

I like Trestle on Tenth for lunch....the garden is nice on a nice day.

We've been to Trestle on Tenth once for lunch mid-week, and the food was fine. But I don't think it really fits the o.p.'s request for cuisine that is like Blue Hill's. In any case, if they want to eat in the garden, then you are right that they need to reserve well in advance because there are not that many tables.

Bottino just down the block has a lovely garden which is quite a bit larger than Trestle's. The food is delicious. But, again, not quite what the o.p. has in mind.

      2. Gramercy Tavern is a good option and not far from Chelsea. I had a lovely lunch there not long ago. Lots of seasonal dishes, good cocktails too.

To clarify, I presume you are referring to the Tavern Room since the GT dining room does not serve lunch on Saturday.
