Griffith Park Observatory Picnic suggestions

I will be doing my annual visit to the observatory and want to take some good eatin' along for a picnic on the grass. Since I'm taking the 101 to N. Vermont Ave route, can any of y'alls recommend a good place to pick up some lunch?

  1. I didn't know that picnics were allowed on the Observatory grounds?

Maybe not large groups, although there are plenty of groups of young school age kids sitting around, eating their lunch. It will be just me and my daughter tucked away somewhere - maybe we'll walk up a trail for a bit and eat there.

They used to be. I was up there having a dinner picnic from the Ranch Market in Hollywood with my parejnts the night they were filming Rebel Without A Cause with James Dean. You do the math. And the tables were right outside the front entrance.

        2. Try Cheese Store Silver Lake, or Forage. There is also a restaurant at the observatory, but I am not sure of the hours.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been to the observatory restaurant a couple of times - it's actually pretty good - but I'm looking for something new/different/exciting.

The Oaks Gourmet Market across Bronson from Gelsons at Franklin & Bronson has lots of good stuff.
Can't imagine you won't find what you want.

              Oaks Gourmet
1915 N Bronson Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90068

          2. Gelsons on Franklin...
Exit Gower head east on Franklin. When you're finished shopping head east and left on Vermont.

Reminder theres a limited number of parking spaces so get there before the observatory opens. Observatory opens M-F Noon Weekends 10:00am
