Source of Sichuan peppercorns (hua jiao) in Hawaii?

Does anyone know of a source here? My understanding is that they cannot be imported because they have some kind of fungus or whatever that would infect some native plants, hence their ban. Anyone have a better understanding of why I can't find any?

Nope, found some in Chinatown pretty easily. :)

Is the ban just for Hawaii? I heard they were banned nationally some years ago, but it's been lifted since. (And even then, it's hard to believe that people weren't figuring out how to get their hands on some ;)

Thanks, Embla, for your response. So hua jiao can be added to the list of things that are easier to buy in Chinatown and its environs than anywhere else. :)
