re: mocro
Palate on Brand has lunch on Fridays. It's an amazing place.
I like Fortune Inn - chinese food a tad amercanized but very well done. (Maryland, north of broadway)
You are right by the Americana - I have not been, but who could resist Katsuya - they have a branch there, designed by Stark.
And not so chi chi but VERY tasty, is a sushi place on Maryland, south of Broadway. Very inventive rolls, high quality. Closer to Harvey than broadway, if that helps.
There are also many nice restaurants ON Brand. And preferences for cuisine?

re: reality check
been to raffi's once, palate, over two dozen times. i do not see the ratio getting anything but more extreme.
palate has great service. the food and the wine selection are splendid. the menu is also such that you can eat for what i consider a bargain (so much so, i do not go to the more casual and nearby canele anymore). on the other hand, if you feel like a sumptuous feast, easily done as well.
it is the only restaurant in the area that my business partner and i will take clients. tables in the back are more casual/wine bar feel. the front is a bit more formal.
