Sea Fish & Chips - new owners?
We went for supper at Sea last night and had another mediocre experience. The last 2 times we have gone the food has been less than stellar. The batter on the fish seems different, the salad isn't as fresh and the tartar sauce is not as good.
I asked our server if there had been any changes in the kitchen, but she was very vague and said maybe the person who made the batter today screwed up the recipe slightly or something.
We LOVED this restaurant when we first found it, but I don't think we will be going there anymore.
Anyone else know if they are under new ownership? I have not seen the woman who I think was owner or part-owner there for a while....

I posted my thoughts about the new ownership on my Urbanspoon review here...http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/15/142033...
If you never had it before the change you'd probably say it was average and fine. However, this place was so amazing before the ownership change. They no longer serve the great curry sauce they had, fries are not served fresh, different tartar sauce, watery gravy for poutine...I could go on but such is life :(

That's such a shame. My one and only time I managed to go there was on the last day of the original ownership. They had ran out of chips so we sat there drooling at the next table and almost freaked when the waitress took away the girl's plate with 3/4 uneaten chips. Looking back on it, we probably should have asked the unaskable for the almost untouched plate of chips. The yam fries substitute was good as well as the fish but I'm left wondering forever if the chips tastes as good as they looked..
I've had such a hankering lately for late night fish and chips like I used to do in the UK. Is there any place in Calgary anyone's been to for the late night chippie bender?

Yup, it's taken a major step backward. We used to try to get there once every couple weeks, even more often during the summer... we've been a handful of times under the new ownership trying to give them a chance, but I think at this point we're moving on.
The service is still fine, and they seem like nice people, but quite simply, the food isn't nearly as good, and compared to the old place, everything here now feels like a "shortcut". The coleslaw is now quite dry (rather than the creamy old 'slaw), the fish pieces appear smaller... heck even little things like the dipping sauces coming in cheap and tiny disposable paper cups rather than in the nice metal cups they used to.
It's a shame what happened to this once great place.
