SF area food carts- who do you follow?

JillianK Aug 3, 2010 09:20 AM

Hi! I'm coming to SF next week for a conference and staying a few extra days with my boyfriend. I've been following your board for months and have read so many of your excellent recommendations. But we're hoping to be economic (and trendy) by filling in our lunches with the food carts. I've learned that you need a Twitter account to find them (got it!) Which ones do you recommend I follow? We're staying on the wharf for the three days of the conference, but after that have more mobility, including staying one night in Berkeley. Thanks!

@sfcarts is the best source. It's the voice of the SF Cart project, organizer of Off the Grid, and generally retweets all of the individual carts' announcements. If you are here on Friday night, check out Off the Grid at Fort Mason Center. There will be 15-20 food trucks and food carts from 5:00 to 9:00 PM (plus a bar and music). It's a short walk from the #30 bus (Laguna St. stop).

Fabulous! That's a great resource I hadn't yet found. Thank you!

Also try @chowdermobile and @wafflemaniaSF who are now parked right next to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park from 9-5pm, M-Su. If your conference is near the Financial District, there are at least 4-5 trucks that dot the area during lunch hours. The best right now being @51ststatesf. And yes, do check out Off the Grid... the best collection of Bay Area food trucks in one spot. The 3 twitters I provided do not participate in OtG (yet).

I've got a large list of carts (as well as a few local related news sources and stationary spots) in this twitter list. Convenient way to follow everything....
