New Hakka restaurant in Pickering......

Hi all,

I was driving around Pickering over the weekend and found a new Hakka place, at Brock Rd. and Kingston Rd. on the Northwest side. It was called Hakka Fusion, I'm a regular at Lin Garden in Markham, but that's too far from where I live in Whitby.

We decided to give it a try, in speaking with the waitress, they had been open less than a week. I ordered the Crispy Beef and Manchurian Chicken, with a side of steamed rice. (you can get all white meat for a few bucks more). The order was completed very quickly (almost 10 minutes), the food was hot, and smelled unbelievable, and to add one thing, the place was clean, and smelled even better.

Now I'll add, my wife has had Lin Garden, and thought it was so so. Hakka Fusion seems to be her new favorite, and mine. The Crispy beef was crispy and spiced really nicely, the beef was far better then Lin's. The Manchurian chicken tasted fresh and even got rave reviews from other family members who tried it out.

Anyone else in the Durham area wanna give it a try and let me know what you thought? We'll probably go back this weekend or sooner, I am going to try a few other things on the menu.

SM

I've visited this restaurant twice - once to dine in, and once for take out.

      Dine In
      - restaurant is new and clean
      - decor is okay, they could have put more effort into the design and finishing touches
      - compared to Lin Garden and Tangerine, the menu doesn't have a lot of Hakka offerings
      - in addition to Hakka, they offer regular Chinese, Thai, and Caribbean fare
      - despite the limited Hakka offerings, what I did order was very good
      - Chili Chicken was not too spicy, but had a nice flavour. I would say it tastes more similar to Lin Garden than Tangerine
      - the beef was very, very soft - the softest and most tender beef I've ever had at an Asian restaurant
      - the fried rice had an excellent flavour and not too greasy
      - the shrimp pakoras were amazing, with just the right amount of spice
      - service was a touch slow considering the restaurant wasn't crazy busy

      Take Out
      - they have a $6.50 lunch menu that includes your choice of soup(s) and spring rolls
      - the hot and sour soup was pretty pedestrian
      - the spring rolls had a nice texture
      - I'm disappointed that they don't offer more lunch menu items compared to Tangerine
      - no drink is included in the lunch specials
      - for $1 more, you can order off of the lunch menu outside of lunch hours (12:00 pm to 3:00 pm)

      Overall
      - I think the night chef is very good at Hakka Fusion. However, I'm disappointed that they don't offer Bombay Chicken. I find their Hakka selection to be a bit limited.
      - I would recommend going here

        Thanks

I live very close to this restaurant and my husband and I love it! We've actually had a hard time finding a good quick takeaway since moving to Pickering but once we found Hakka, we were so happy!

It has a great mix of food. Hubby loves the Indian menu and I the Asian.

Thus far we've tried out and enjoyed-
        -Beef and Broccoli
-Chilli Chicken Chow Mein (great pan fried noodles)
        -Shanghai Noodles
        -Wonton soup (yummy and cheap)
-Fried wontons (that have much more meat in them than I've ever had at another restaurant which often seem to be all dough)
-Butter chicken is fab (but do not serve naan to accompany).
-General Tao chicken (wasn't what I expected but it was yummy)
        -Chow meins are fab!

Items with beef in them have unreal tender beef!
Black bean chicken was the only thing I wasn't crazy about. It was okay but a little bland.

Been their 4 times now and it's a solid Hakka pick for sure. I'm a regular at Federiks due to it's proximity to work but it's much greasier and not as falvourful as the equivalent at Hakka Fusion. Solid restaurant, will be going back as it's close to home in Pickering. Nice to see some good new restaurants opening up in my neck of the woods!
