Off the top of my head - and I'm sure I'm forgetting some - there's
Fortune Palace at 2815 Brentwood Road - ignore the buffet, order off the traditional menu
Vallarta Mexican at 3177 Capital Blvd - sit down table service
El Pasea Salvadoran at 3027 Capital Blvd, - not brilliant, but different and tasty
the restaurant inside Compare Foods at 2215 New Hope Road - steamtable, cucina casera-style, Latin meat n 3's almost. You may not need to eat dinner, though.Just down Capital, inside the Beltline is the taco truck parked by the auto shop (righthand side when you're headed south) and the seafood market whose name totally escapes me now but is mentioned on other recent threads.
I no longer recommend the Vietnamese restaurant next to Fortune Palace or Pho Cali. Neither is worth is any longer. You'll notice most of the recommendations are Mexican/central American. it's the nature of the neighborhood.

Rockycat-
That store was a Compar Foods for many years. They switched to International Foods a year or so ago. If it were me, I'd hit up the taco truck you reference, El Poblano. It's at Capitol and Hodges. I've eaten at each of the places you tip and there's not a clunker in the bunch.

Lots of good ethnic choices - like Sawasdee Thai.
