best dog friendly farm to table in SF

  • 6

I'm going to be in SF next month for a night with my dog. Any recommendations for a great farm to table place that would invite us to dine at a sidewalk/patio table?

  1. Zuni has a few tables on the sidewalk and is reportedly dog-friendly. Those tables might be nicer at lunch than dinner.

    1. Piccino serves dinner on its sidewalk tables, if their menu is appealing, give them a call and ask about the dog. They're very friendly and relaxed, so I expect it wouldn't be a problem. I was craving a big pile of Mariquita farms greens after being out of the country for several weeks, and Piccino hit the spot.

      1. Here's a blog post by Michael Bauer from a few years ago with some options http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/m... You might want to check if some of the places mentioned are still dog friendly/still around.

        1. You know about our weather, right? Depending on when you come in September, you could hit typical summer weather (foggy, mid- to high-60s, windy - and that's during the day) or our "real" summer weather (which is in the fall -- warmer, sunnier). We don't have a ton of outdoor restaurants because of this. But Piccino is in one of our warmer areas.

          1. So much of SF is farm to table that you may want to look around at various menus. You don't mention the size of your dog (some places have limited space or limits on dog sizes).
We have some large ones and have been accomodated at:
            - Tony's pizza in North Beach (this really isn't a standard pizza place but something special). There is usually a wait but there's a park across the street, and they have heat lamps outside.
            - Farina in the Mission
            - South Park Cafe, Momo's, Paragon, Public House (all in SOMA around the ball park)
            - Radius in the back patio (this was before the full service restaurant opened. It may be worth a call to them to find out since they are classically farm to table).
            - Axis Cafe - Potrero. I've had better brunches here than dinners but there are recent reports on good dinners. Again, their dog space is in a back patio but they are very welcoming.
            - Piccino - tables are on the sidewalk; never a question about the dogs.
            - Zuni - at off hours for brunch on the sidwalk. Agree that it is probably better daytime than evening for outside dining here.
