Roast Pork Sandwich - King of Prussian or Newtown Square

  • 9

I am in town on business and I would love to have a great roast sandwich like the one I had a few years ago in Philadelphia. I am in the KOP and Newtown Square area. I would appreciate any recommendations in that area for great sandwiches.

I have a car and can drive a reasonable distance.

I am in a hotel right next to the KOP Mall, so any recommendations for other good places near there would be welcome as well. There are lots of chains around here, but I would love to find some local favorites.

Thanks

    1. Perhaps Rocco's in Malvern/Paoli? That is basically take out only, but there are a few outside tables. I haven't tried their pork yet.

Thanks for the recommendations. Rocco's seemed to be easy to get to not far off route 252. So I gave them a try and the roast pork did not disappoint.

They have the plain pork sandwich and then a special Abruzze version with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. That was great for $8.00 and probably large enough to share. They properly soaked the bun with the gravy.

The roast pork reminds me of the Chicago Italian beef sandwich of my youth. Although this pork was a little more spicy with lots of herb and pepper.

I live in California now (SF Bay Area) and there are a few places that do a pretty reasonable cheesesteak, but the roast pork sandwich seems to be a local specialty that you don't find copied elsewhere.

        Thanks again.

      2. Are you guys kidding? Newtown Square is renowned for its roast pork sandwiches:

I'm partial to Luigi and Giovanni's, it's a little more expensive but worth every cent

Probably about 15 minutes from the mall depending on traffic. Once youre on 202, you don't even have to turn.

          1. Order the Pork Italiano at Lenny's 900 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA. it's insane.

I agree. Lenny's Pork is wonderful. They also have a daily Italian Hoagie special at lunchtime for $5.99 which includes chips and a soda. Can't be beat.
