$1 Oysters Legal Seafood Outdoors at the Charles Hotel Cambridge
I'm not a huge Legal fan.
But $1 oysters, outdoors, in Harvard Square before 6:00pm does not suck. Heck, get there at 5:50 and order 3 dozen... They shucked them fresh upon order.

It's an ongoing chainwide special but your waiter/waitress do not always know so make sure to ask them to ask the manager first. It's only Mon-Thu between 3pm-6pm.

Mon-Thur would make sense, but I had em on Friday...

I've enjoyed them a few times at Legal Kendall Square. They are quite strict about the cut off time, though, so I usually order like you suggest -- a few dozen when I sit down.
Believe it or not they actually let me order at 6:03pm though initially they were not going to allow it...
And they let you do it on a Friday at that. It's either because a) you're so darned charming or b) they could obviously tell you are nuts (see: The List)

He had The List with him in its original scroll form, on papyrus. Needless to say, they gave him whatever he wanted.

Braintree location offered them on Saturday afternoon.

Been to the Braintree South Shore Plaza location many times. Half the time the server don't have a clue so I stopped going. Been to the Dedham Legacy Place many times too. Half the time the server don't have a clue so I stopped going too.

I find that the service is much better at the bar.

I know at one point there were several places donig $1 oyster specials, does anyone know who is still offering that and when they are offered.

Had some $1 oyster at the Marliave recently- there available everyday till 6:00. Also was a Kingfish Hall, they had both $! oysters and $.50 jumbo shrimp. I don't know if they have specific hours for the deal.

Had lunch at Kingfish recently - had a planked striped bass that was truly outstanding.

The Palm has $1 oysters from 5 - 7 (plus some other pretty good happy hour food specials for $3.50).
I thought the oysters were outstanding there (no choices of varietals).

is this offered every day?

The website says Monday to Friday

Lord Hobo started doing $1 oysters and $5 apps 5-7pm as well. Not sure how well they would sit in my stomach after drinking a few 9%+ beers though.

Lineage in brookline has $1 Island Creeks at the bar Mon-Fri 5-7pm. Fresh shucked, served on ice w/cocktail sauce and migonette (sp?).

cognac bistro serves excellent oysters on ice every night - always one type that's a buck, with other choices more expensive.

Bluepoints.
Also no Hour restrictions for them, they are all the time.

rialto in the charles hotel also has island creeks on monday for a dollar.

Do you have to go into the restaurant (or, at least, the bar area) to get them, or is there a special (preferably outdoor) oyster seating area? If the $1 oysters are simply a way of luring you in, it'll be hard to leave without spending $50+ pp (as opposed to the outdoor seating at Legal, where you can simply suck in two dozen or so oysters and leave without being tempted by anything else on offer).

i lift weights on monday nights and am happy to get a protein load afterwards.
Does that mean you indulge in the old English custom of steak and oysters?
i second rialto - they're offered in the bar only so you don't get sucked in too far. i've been with friends who have eaten over 4 dozen, each...

well now, that REALLY makes me feel better :-)

I love u and your friends. My sister and I/me (can never remember which is right) should join u/them for a sort of man vs oyster nite
Permalink | Reply
no, just the oysters though i have not done that recently. i live about 10 minutes walk from rialto.

I've come to the envious conclusion that you live 10 minutes from everywhere.

Normally Legals does it only at the bar/lounge area. Braintree also has a little slider menu too at that time.

The quality of Legal's will vary depending which location one is at. The Braintree location is terrible as well as Park Square. I have always like the kendall square location along with Havard Square. The new legal harborside is nice, and tough to beat this time of year.

Just had a dozen east coast oysters at Les Zygomates (South Station) tonight and they were superb. 6 different varieties if you're into bivalve terroir. $1/each from 4-6pm Mon-Fri.
