Scottsdale with Children
We are traveling to The Princess in early September with two boys, ages 9 and 11. One child is a foodie, while the other is more mainstream. Any suggestions for places nearby where we can keep them both happy and where we can enjoy a good meal?
We took our boys (8 & 6) to Renegade on Shea and they loved it. The chef is a former James Beard award winner. They have a somewhat interesting kids menu (including Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese), but there is also the incredible bacon, green chile burger and other items a foodie kid would like.
Tea LIght Cafe is near your hotel and offers very good Veitnamese food my kids like.
Picazzo's Organic Italian Kitchen is right there at the Promenade shopping center directly south of the resort-- that's a fave of mine when I meet up with friends who have children. It's primarily a pizza joint, they have only recently changed the name. The servers are well-trained to deal with kids. For the parents, they source local wherever they can, green/sustainable options elsewhere, and preservative free meats. So there's care taken with the ingredients. Local beers on tap and a passable wine list.
You need to hit 18 Degrees and Over Easy at the Ice Den. It is ridiculously close to your hotel and great food from one of the areas top chefs. Over Easy is the best breakfast place around and 18 Degrees has all the typical bar type foods: burgers, pizzas, wings, nachos, with a huge twist, it is all done by a great chef who uses top ingredients. Everything is good there and you will not be disappointed. Plus, the 9 and 11 year olds will love watching the ice skating, and if there is an open skate (a couple times everyday day) you can rent skates and have some fun out of the crazy heat. Also, there are plenty of video games, air hockey, and interactive games to play. My boys love it. And, again the food is excellent. The burger is at the top of my list in the area, great pizzas, killer nachos and wings.
