Updated "dinner & cocktails" recs needed for group of 30-somethings
A group of friends and I visit NYC annually for a week during the US Open -- our first night in town is a Friday, and we always plan a cocktails & dinner night, and have tended to visit old favorites like Asia de Cuba, Nobu, Pastis, and Blue Water Grill. This year, we'd love to update our list and try some new places since we're somewhat tired of the old favorites. We're staying in midtown, but as you can tell from our old list, are fine with grabbing a cab somewhere for the right spot. We're all in our mid-30's and appreciate a good cocktail list or good wines by the glass, with a somewhat energetic atmosphere rather than a quiet meal. Only caveat is no steakhouses. Any suggestions?
Some of the options that have been tossed around by the group are Scarpetta, Monkey Bar, Stanton Social and Gotham Bar & Grill, among others, so comments on those are welcome as well!

I don't think Aldea and SD26 have as much of a dinner scene as the other places mentioned, but I'll second the recommendations for Scarpetta, the Breslin (no reservations unless you are getting the special whole suckling pig meal though), DBGB, Locanda Verde, and Maialino.

You're right about Aldea. But the upfront wine bar of SD26 is full of 30-somethings. Bankers from Credit Suisse nearby.
And right next door to Aldea is Lilly's, should you wish a livelier post-dinner scene.
