Santa Fe - Restaurant Martin

Geoff Aug 2, 2010 07:58 AM

Greetings all. I'm not seeing a lot on chowhound, and comments I see from other sources are very mixed about Restaurant Martin in Santa Fe. I'd be grateful for any thoughts from hounds who have visited recently. Thanks!

We really liked it as did friends of our who eat at all the top SF eateries.

Have to agree with DebitNM... while I am a fan of Martin Rios wherever he is, Restaurant Martin is the real deal.

Restaurant lacks slightly in the ambience department but the food is excellent. I've been there several times for both lunch and dinner. Dinners are slightly better than lunch mostly because the dishes offered are slightly more Imaginative than those offered at lunch. And, to repeat something I've said elsewhere before... while there is nothing wrong with the main dishes, what makes them stand out is very imaginative accompanying sides. Time and again I say to my companion, yeah, yeah the (whatever) dish is excellent but can you believe those ... potatoes/those beans etc.

Rios is a very talented chef and Restaurant Martin reflects that.

I'll 3rd the emotion. Enjoyed a wonderful meal a couple of months back. Top of the list should I return to Santa Fe.

My parents were there on Friday night and loved it. We also went to Geronimo on Saturday and they said their meal at Martin was far superior. I was extremely underwhelmed by Geronimo so I'm jealous that I didn't get a chance to try Martin! Next time.

I take all my out of town foodie visitors to Restaurant Martin. I think lunch can be quite good -- and it is less expensive than dinner. But, at dinner, if you do not have a large appetite -- I think the main courses are very generous in portion size, you can order several appetizers and be very satisfied as well as sampling a number of Martin Rios' wonderful offerings. The salads are great, any ahi tuna dish is excellent, the risotto with scallops is fantastic. And, if the weather is warm, the new outside dining areas are really lovely. GO!
