African food in Chicago

Hello,
My boyfriend and I were born in east africa and are new to chicago. I'd like to take him to an African restaurant that does food from east, west or southern Africa i.e not north Africa! Anywhere that does local food would be great -things like ugali and its regional equivalents! I heard there was a decent place in or near Roger's Park, I think it was called African Harambee,but I have been advised this place may have closed down.

not sure what side of town you're on, but there are a few on the southside as well. off the top of my head, yassa on 75th street comes to mind, and there's another called sunugal. urbanspoon.com is a great resource for international food in and around the city.

African Harambee has become Ethiopian Diamond II (it was owned by the same people). There was also an Eritrean restaurant in RP that recently closed (as did Cafe Senegal). Here are a few other names to get you started:
