Bacon-crusted French Toast?

ipsedixit Aug 1, 2010 08:57 PM

Anyone know where to get a bacon-crusted french toast?

Y'know, bread (pref. brioche or challah), dipped in egg batter, then dredged in bacon, and fried?

3 on Fourth in Santa Monica used to have it but, alas, they have shuttered.

Any leads? Thanks.

Actually, Square One has something close to bacon-crusted French Toast, so that's going to be our first stop when we get a chance.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, nonetheless.

I dunno about that specifically, but I finally made it to Nickel Diner today and both the french toast and the maple-bacon donut were SUPERB. French toast is with homemade cinnamon brioche, and has the perfect amount of moistness from the egg. The maple-bacon donut is warm and crunchy and has a generous amount of bacon. Eat the two together and you're pretty darn close to what you're looking for. :)

        Hey, ipse!

As it turns out, you usually find what you’re looking for in the last place you look. West 4th & Jane, located in the former 3 on Fourth space offers that which you seek. I’ve yet to try it though.

Are you sure? I checked your link and they don't open until 4 or 5 pm and all I see on the menu is dinner and/or bar items. No french toast on the menu.........

'Tis on the dessert menu; guess you have to be drunk to want that, lol.

… not necessarily drunk, though. A good ole’ fashioned case of the “munchies” may indeed suffice.

                Whaddup, ipse?

Again, thanks for another lead, degustateur.

Although this may be a problem, because I'm looking for a breakfast place.

I've had the french toast at West 4th and Jane a long time ago. it was nothing special. Plus, they didnt have any draft beers! Only bottles..
