Visiting San Francisco for the first time August 12-15 for a convention

I'm a huge foodie and I"m staying at the Palace Hotel, any recommendations for dining out, I'll have Wednesday and Sunday afternoon and evening free for a culinary trek. Any suggestions would be very gracious of all San Fran Chow Hounders. Thanks
