Suggestions for a reasonably priced steak in lower Manhattan?
I'm looking for a reasonably priced steak restaurant in lower Manhattan (I'm staying near Wall St). My budget is <$50 inc sides, a glass of wine and service. Is this possible at anywhere half decent?
If not, I'd be prepared to trade down to a good burger place - again, any suggestions please?
Happy to travel up to mid-town if needed..
Thanks in advance
First choice would be Les Halles Downtown - good sides and apps (mostly under $10) and good (if not, like, dry-aged funky melt-in-your-mouth steakhouse) steaks. If there are two of you dining, the Côte De Boeuf for two is very reasonably priced at $58 - and the only dry-aged option, unless they're running some special that night. Plus they have a wide selection of cuts, all reasonably priced.
If you were to venture further North, there are a few options that while not specifically steakhouses, have decent steak options. Schiller's Liquor Bar has a decent steak frites, which at under $20 is one of the better deals, and good apps if you need more. Blue Ribbon Brasserie has a very good hangar steak, though it was a little pricier as I recall - closer to the high $20s - but their apps/sides are some of the best. The Smith also has good steaks and excellent burgers.
The hangar at The Harrison is really good - marinated in Guiness, with sauteed smoked onions. And the duck fat fries are great. With an app and drink it might break your budget, though.
