Craftbar-an odd experience
I popped in the other day for a quick dinner (i've been here a number of times) and found it a bit odd in the level of inconsistency. My girlfriend and I started with the Anson Mills Grits, Coddled Egg, Summer Truffle dish and the Veal Sweetbreads, Pickled Ramp, Soubise dish. The grits dish was fantastic and the sweetbreads was OK. We then moved to the Bucatini, Manila Clam, Pancetta, Mustard Green, and Roasted Tomato and the Beet Casunziei, Wild Spinach, Brown Butter, Poppy Seed. The casunqiei was out of this world, so that makes two dishes that were phenomenal. The bucatini was horrible. The biggest problem was a crazy level of saltiness. I am a salt lover whereas my girlfriend is not. She couldn't eat the dish and I struggled badly with it. In the face of such severe execution issues it is difficult to evaluate the dish but I also thought their was a problem with the interplay of the mustard and tomato- although again this may too have been an execution problem. Overall, I had an excellent meal despite the food atrocity that was the bucatini dish.
