San Francisco Bay Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

I'm sorry to bother everyone but last minute help needed on two lunches and one dinner...

We're flying in tomorrow morning and out Saturday afternoon staying in Union Square area. I've spent the last 3 days searching this and several other sites for good meals and now can't seem to find the ones that sounded interesting.

We were thinking breakfast at Ferry Building Marketplace on Saturday Morning. (this is all I retained during my research)

I read about a small Italian Restaurant that had great food and was off the beaten path. I really like seafood with Italian and my wife doesn't. We're fine spending the money for something like Acquerello if it's that good, but tend to enjoy less familiar fare.

The other meal was something I read on a gathering of taco trucks on Friday nights. Can someone tell me what that is and if it's going on tomorrow?

For lunch we really can't make our minds up. We're from Phoenix and enjoy everything from Pizzeria Bianco to T Cooks. (posted this in case anyone's been to phx)

We've talked about Dim Sum, and great sandwiches.

I'm sorry if this isn't enough detail, just trying to figure this out before tomorrows lunch!!

Thanks.

  1. Ferry Building on Saturday is a great idea. There is plenty to see, do, and eat before you get on the plane, actually.

I think the Italian off the beaten path you are thinking of is La Ciccia. Fair amount of seafood with some nonseafood as well, but you are unlikely to get a reservation. Other interesting Italian: Incanto, Perbacco, SPQR, Quince. Barbacco, Perbacco's sister restaurant has good sandwiches.

In the city, consider Yank Sing (fancy) or City View (cheaper) for dim sum lunch.

Yep, that sounded like La Ciccia too. I'd try for a reservation, I've gotten last minute reservations there, and there are actually two available on open table right now. For Friday night, you may be thinking of Off the Grid, it's at Fort Mason on Friday nights, and is lots of different kinds of food carts.

For lunch you could easily get dim sum, or you could pick up a picnic worth of stuff at the farmer's market and inside the Ferry Building and go sit outside somewhere and enjoy the (possible) sun.

Just got a 5:45pm reservation @ La Ciccia. The website doesn't look familiar but the food looks great. Thanks.

Just looked the other two dim sum locations up and City View it is. That will be tomorrow's lunch.

One more lunch. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

      2. The Friday night food cart event is Off The Grid at Fort Mason. http://www.sfcartproject.com/archives...

for lunch, how about Marlowe in SOMA? They're burger has been the top rated locally and the egg salad sandwich just got a nice review. Its easy to get to on your to or from the Airport.

        1. it's possible that you were also thinking of Albona, although that doesn't get as good reports on here as la ciccia

Just want to thank everyone for their prompt replies.

We had Lunch on Friday at City View and it was good. Friday dinner @ La Ciccia was fantastic. I had the Lamb and my wife had a Semolina Gnochetti with Pork meats Sugo and 9 Months Pecorino. Great little restaurant and will return. Friday night we went to a place called Candy Bar (serve dessert and drinks only). Sat for several hours playing Battle Ship, and enjoying PB&J as well as Strawberry Limeaide. Very Good.

Saturday morning made it over to the Ferry Building and have to say that's the best farmers Market I've been to. What a selection. We wished we had a fridge and a bbq for dinner.

We tried to have lunch @ Nopa (didn't know they weren't open for lunch). The back door was open and I went down into the kitchen to see if they could recommend anywhere in the area. The Chef talked to me for a good 10 minutes about various cuisine and recommended a place called Bar Jules which is just down the street.

I had a burger and my wife had an egg, bacon, and tomato sandwich. Wow. The food was awesome. The servers were wound a little tight but the food more than made up for it.

We really enjoyed our food journey and again appreciate everyone's suggestions.
