  1. In the Bronx, I can reccomend some stuff in the Fordham, Bedford Park and (near) Tremont areas.

Arthur Ave has a really good mozzarella shop in Casa della Mozzarella at 604 East 187th Street (just off Arthur Avenue). Right next to that place is a good pastry shop called DeLillio's. Good cheesecake and cannolis, not too pricey. As for restaurants, I like Mario's, Zero Otto Nove (Neapolitan pizza), and Roberto's gets rave reviews from many. If you go to Zero Otto Nove, get the diavola. Stick to the pies. All of these are on Arthur Ave. The Retail Market can be good too.

A little further down Arthur is Estrellita Poblano III, a Mexican joint that specializes in southern Mexican food. Their tacos are awesome (try chorizo and beef tongue) but you should definitely go for their excellent cemitas. On Saturday they have a specials menu. This place got a glowing review from Robert Sietsema.

Speaking of Meixcan, you can take the trek up Webster Ave to the Bedford Park Boulevard intersection and drop into Okay Mr. Pancho for some good, cheap Mexican. Their tortas is delicious.

On Jerome just south of the 4 train stop is a cool Vietnamese grocer, the restaurant is okay but had seen better days. You cannot miss this grocer. I believe there's a Jamaican place across the street, but I have not been. Looks interesting.

At 183rd and Grand Concourse, go to Papaye. They serve hearty, to-die-for Ghanian. And on Gerard, after 161st and by Yankee Stadium, there is a good Jamaican place called The Feeding Tree. Try the Jerk Shrimp or Curry Chicken.

    Feeding Tree
892 Gerard Ave, Bronx, NY 10452

    Yankee Stadium
    1 E 161st St, Bronx, NY 10451

Sietsema did a review of a Pakistani place on Lydig Avenue (now Mother Teresa Way) in Pelham, I forgot the name but it begins with an "R". Anyone know? Well his review was back in '03, so Im wondering if anyone has been there more recently and can attest to whether the quality has remained or degraded over the years?

I'm also a big fan of this little bodgea, not a trip in itself, on Hughes Avenue past 188th street in Fordham-Belmont. One block east of Arthur, its called Guadalajara Bakery and they offer some cheap, cheap, cheap Mexican baked goods (conchas, etc.) All for $.50 each! They have some groceries there too and later in the afternoon/early in the evening they have a stand outside with chicken, chicharon with churro-like brad laid out flat. I don't know the name of these but they are alright if you are in the area...

Rawal Ravail is the name, I've never been. I'm going to the zoo next Wed, I'll scope it out. :)

Please post your thoughts! Do you know anything else in the Pelham area?

No, unfortunatly I've been a bad Bronxite and have been going out of borough for food lately. I'm not that familiar with the East Bronx either.

My latest find is the Patacon Pisao truck in Inwood (So close to the Broadway bridge it almost counts as the BX) It's up for vendy of the year!

Well then you should definitely make this Mexican joint on Arthur Avenue, Estrellita Poblano III, a priority. As in a this weekend priority. Have you been to any of the other 3 locations?

Sietsema did a review of the place and I did one, focused on their cemitas, here:

I linked to the glowing Sietsema review in my post.
