Portland Pie Co - Manchester NH

We've visited the newly opened Portland Pie Co in Manchester, on Elm St, several times in the past few weeks...and all I can say is WOW! I've been impressed with their pizza, calzones, pulled pork sliders, lobster sliders...Everything we have ordered has been fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Drinks (margarita's, shipyard brewing co beer..etc) are all excellent! It fills up fast on weekends, but you can usually grab a seat at the bar and enjoy the scenery. We've liked it so much, that we've been back there several times in a two week span. Finally some good pizza in the Manchester area!!!

I'm sorry to say I had a completely different experience than snl1129's.

It wasn't New York Pizza. It wasn't Chicago Pizza. It was Nowhere (and Horrible) Pizza.

The pizza and calzone we had were too doughy. The toppings were completely forgettable and their 'famous' red sauce was too sweet and tasted like it came from a jar. You can find much better pizza at Johnny Troy's (the closest thing to NY Pizza I've tasted in Manchester) or even 900 Degrees. It was reminiscent of a noisy, horrible college pizza place I once ate at in Brockport NY in 1971. Yecch.

The only saving grace was the Caesar Salad. I won't be back for more.

I would have to disagree on Johnny Troy's pizza! First off, the place is filthy and the panini grill is black and gross as if they've never cleaned it. We saw ants everywhere! The pizza was mediocre, and the calzone/subs were not fresh tasting at all. 900 degrees is over priced, soggy, tasteless cracker crust pizza..just not my style. The only thing they have going for them is their chic space and vibe. I guess if you're on the hunt for "NY pizza" Portland Pie may not fit the bill for you, but it rivals many of the excellent pizza places in Providence and Boston. I happen to LOVE thier pizza! The Moneghan pizza is the best! If I want true NY pizza...I'm going to NY, but for now, in this culinary wasteland they call NH, Portland Pie fills the gaps in between for us.

Maybe it was an"off" night, but the pizza was like Pillsbury crescent dough with Hunt's tomato sauce on top. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I ended up there this weekend...... an extended family group outing with a couple of young kids - I didn't have much say in the matter. Otherwise dinner out on the weekend would entail, hopefully, a more interesting restaurant choice.

The PPC reminded me of an Applebee's, perhaps just a tad nicer. Very, very loud.

Sides of nachos and chicken tenders were unremarkable and not very generous. The group also shared two large pies. The pizzas had good flavors, but what turned me off is the dough was mostly raw toward the center. I hate that. If a restaurant is supposedly specializing in pizza, one would think they could at least thoroughly cook the dough.
