Birthday trip report from Big D

A few quick hits from my visit back home:

Twisted Root - Most excellent! Did takeout lunch from the Campbell Road location, takeout dinner from the newest on SMU Blvd. Lovin' it! Everything including pickles and condiments are homemade and delicious. Way fun all the way around. The SMU Blvd. spot is the new late night hang...

Herrera's (quasi-original on Maple) - same as it ever was! Did not get my usual Jimmy's special as I had pre-birthday dinner at my aunt and uncle's later. The Larry was 3 enchiladas: sour-cream chicken, verde with ground beef and cheese with chili gravy. Exemplary Tex Mex

Go Fish Ocean Club - Birthday dinner was the bomb! Great room, groovy vibe. Solid service and way good food. Started with the fluke crudo with chili oil and yuzu. YUM! Mom and Sis were pleased with their house salad and Sis with her sashimi sampler. My entree was the Escolar that I had seen on the online menu. Asparagus tips instead of fiddleheads was the only letdown, but man was that dish good. Only thing better was the lobster cream corn side dish. Desserts were quite good... a croissant bread pudding with both white and dark chocolate, cherries and almonds and an excellent creme brulee with a unique and delicious coffee/Grand Marnier syrup.

Chef Tiffany Derry from Top Chef came out to the table twice with the birthday greetz, and was just an absolute doll. She answered our questions about the show (we knew which ones not to ask), and comped our desserts for my special day. I look forward to many returns... great place.
