Paloma on 763 S 8th Street finally opened about 2 weeks ago? Anyone ever been? I have reservations for this weekend. The menu is listed on Menupages.com and it's a bit pricey. I hope it does well in that space since there's been 4-5 restaurants in the past 5 years or so.
I went to Paloma a number of times when it was in NE Phila. It was, for the longest time. my go to spot if I needed something in that area. I always enjoyed my meals as did other foodies that went with me. I haven't been in a couple years so I can't speak to specific menu items and I would guess the prices are higher in Bella Vista than in NE Phila, but it was always worththe price in its old location and it was high for that area.
I was there a week or so ago, and overall I was not impressed. First, the prices were way too high. Almost all the prices seemed about $10 to high. I don't mind paying prices like that if the food reflects that cost, but I just didn't feel that way. The $30 crab cake was okay, but no better than what you could get at Sabrina's for 16. Everything just seemed under spiced and overcooked to me. Second, the room wasn't even very nice, it looks like a neighborhood byo, but at the prices they are charging it should look a little nicer than the Italian place that was there before.
I had very high expectations for this place since I live around the corner and I heard so many good things about the old place, but at these prices you might as well eat at James or Bistro La Minette.
We LOVE Paloma! The food is outstanding and the service is top-notch! From start -to- finish our meal was perfect. We'll definitely be back. Note: With their new location (763 S. 8th st.), Make sure to arrive 15 minutes early to find suitable (free) street parking -or- (free) Municipal lots. There's also a paid lot $13 on 7th street, that also takes Credit Cards.
