Coney Island: What's The Deal With This Place?
As a newly transplanted Chicagoan, I took my first visit to Coney Island today; my family and I had just finished our requisite Nathan's when we looked across the street to see... "Big Al's Chicago Hot Dog King".

The place was shut down.
What's the story? Was it/Is it any good? Did they just heat up frozen White Castles? Could someone pick a worse spot in the universe to open a Chicago hot dog stand?
Someone enlighten me.

Businesses come and go. There is a kind of media campaign to tear down Coney Is, and with a huge application of public spending, rebuild it as something else.

Place is open seasonally-the french fries are completetly different from Nathans and excellent, but the dogs should be purchased at Nathans!

Just curious, as a transplanted-Chicagoan, how these dogs rate...and how do they serve real White Castle burgers?

Stopped in once, two years ago, but a Chicago dog wasn't in the cards:

Don't recall seeing Big Al's in business last summer.

Thanks Dave, I'm still confused by the White Castle signage.
