Blood Orange... Anything! What's Good?
Finally got to try Di Dio's Blood Orange Italian Ice last week and it triggered a Blood Orange Craving phase. What recommendations do you have for anything Blood Orange that tastes good? Desserts, drinks, entrees, whatever? I wish there was a Di Dio's closer to downtown.
Have the French Toast at Tavern in Brentwood--Blood oranges and citrus syrup. Incredible and innovative use of blood oranges,

It's about as far out of blood orange season as it's possible to get, but I love Trader Joe's blood orange juice, and there's sorbet around town in winter when they're in season.

I haven't tried this place yet but it's on my list: Girasole Restaurant & Takeout on Larchmont Blvd. I read on yelp that they have a tasty blood orange cake that some people have raved about.

das ubergeek is spot on, it's not blood orange season. however if you must have your fix for an easy solution try ciao bella sorbetto or bars. they will due in a pinch. widely available; wfs, gelsons, paviliions, bristol farms, and i'm certain many more large markets.

In season Bulgarini had an outstanding blood orange gelato. You could almost taste the juice.

Thanks for the recs guys! And of course I would ask this when its out of season (doh!) but cravings and a sweet tooth wait for no one. I will definitely look into the sorbetto/juice suggestions right away. The French Toast and the Blood Orange Cake sound delicious, I will have to add that to my list. I'm sure I will have to revisit this thread again when it is in season.

Great thread! I'd add a rec for blood orange soda - Trader Joe's and Whole Foods both have their own brands, or you can get Galvania's at Gelson's. There are other brands around as well. Delish!

The Blood Orange Diablo cocktail at Hudson House in Redondo Beach is fantastic. Loved it so much I'm going to try my hand at a homemade version tonight.
