Very Good Jamaican Restaurant in Naples - Del-Mel Caribbean
I may be late to the party, however the party has been going strong at Del-Mel Caribbean Restaurant for 8 months.
It's on Tamiami Trail East, a block north of the Rattleshake Hammock road intersection, and is the last store in the plaza. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, it's the real thing. The food is authentic. that's clearly shown by the steady stream of customers stopping in for their take out. I ate in with a group of friends familiar with Jamaican cuisine and we polished off our plates.
The food is mild on spiciness. There's some Scotch bonnet salsa to bring the heat up to any level you desire. We had the curried goat, oxtails, curry chicken and BBQ ribs, and will be back for more. Others tried and liked the seafood options. The most expensive item is $12, and it's filling. There's wine, imported and US beers, soft drinks and very good lemonade. I had a drink, sorrel, made from hibiscus flower calyxes-a rich punch.
It's unique because it has very good Island food, and Del is a great friendly resource to learn about the cuisine. I've not had anything lke it in South West Florida. The address is on Rattlesnake, however it's really on US41/Tamiami Trail East.
I put up our experience and my write up with photos at:
Summary: Very good Jamaican food, friendly great service. We ended up staying 3 hours talking with Del (of Del-Mel) and other customers. Some Thursday nights are Reggae Nights. We'll be back.
