Otaez for a vegetarian?

  • 3

I find myself needing to go to Otaez in Fruitvale/Oakland for lunch soon. I am generally fearful of lard in all Mexican food in the area, along with chicken broth in rice.

Any one have ideas of what might be truly vegetarian friendly, and delicious at Otaez? I'm not interested in an iceberg lettuce salad.

  1. Otaez is not a very Veg friendly place there is lard in the refrieds and chicken base in the red rice. right next door is El Huarache Azteca www.elhuaracheaztec.com you can check out their menu on the site. They will have mucho mas options for you.

Thanks! I don't get to choose the place (if I did we'd be going to Taco Grill!). I will keep that in mind.

    2. The Otaez in Alameda also has a white rice which is vegetarian, and their whole Pinto Beans have no lard (I've been told). I generally order items a la carte so I don't have to deal with the whole beans and rice issue. I've had their chile relleno and cheese enchiladas and both are yummy, although it's definitely a melted cheese fest. Good luck!
